Cheer Up Buttercup!

Cheer up buttercup! A saying that we all have heard at least once in our lives, but have you ever taken the time to connect with buttercups as a plant spirit? Buttercups, despite their delicious name, are toxic when used fresh HOWEVER they are able to be used and ingested if you cook them, the heat kills the toxins within the plant. From that point you can make salves, tinctures and any other kinds of infusions that your heart desires. Buttercups have a long history of being a powerful anti inflammatory that is helpful to those who have gout and/or arthritis. It can also be helpful in calming sore throats and has even historically been used to treat gun shot wounds. Even just as a concept the anti inflammatory property of buttercup is so important during Aries season and going into eclipse season where tempers flare and everyone is feeling super fired up! The sign of Aries is ruled by the fiery planet Mars the planet of aggression, competition and drive. Buttercups as a plant is corresponded with the Sun, a luminary that signifies purpose and direction. Meditating with, talking to or just having buttercup around can focus all of that Mars energy into a productive direction that is helpful instead of painful. Even if you don’t live in an area where buttercups grow you can incorporate their essence into your meditation practice or daily routine, through visualization, plant spirit meditations or by keeping a photo of them nearby your work space to prevent figurative and literal flare ups while still staying on course. Buttercups are also a plant of joy, innocence and youth and can be extremely helpful to have around when things get overwhelming and a bit to serious. -Eden Eye Tarot
